Abhishek Bachchan is currently seen in ‘I Want To Talk’ where he’s completely seen in an all-new avatar. So much so, that many reviewers and director Shoojit Sircar also feel that the actor reminded everyone of Irrfan. But ask Abhishek if he’s moved away from the Hindi cinema hero mode and he denies these generalisations.
He picked some of the biggest hits of the year and the last two years – from ‘Jawan’, ‘Pathaan’, ’12th Fail’, ‘Laapataa Ladies’, ‘Singham Again’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ to name a few.

Abhishek then opined, “All the heroes in these films were not the same. All of them submitted to the character and they were true to the script – be it Ajay in ‘Singham Again’, be it Karik in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3′, be it Shah in ‘Jawan’, Vikrant in 12th Fail or the ladies in ‘Laapataa Ladies’.”
He further said, “A lot of times, we generalise because we want to define everything. Now you’ll say, SRK in Jawan is heroic but he will do what the script demands. He was meant to be larger-than-life. Vikrant in ’12th Fail’ is not meant to be larger-than-life. I feel unfortunately, a lot of actors are wrongly accused of demanding to present them a certain way.”
He further spoke about Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of ‘Piku’. “As a fan, for me, there’s nobody more larger than life, than Amitabh Bachchan. Shoojit Sircar did a film with him called ‘Piku’. Look how he saw him and Amitabh Bachchan wasn’t trying to be Vijay Dinanath Chauhan in Piku. I still remember they came to my office for the look test for ‘Piku’ and my dad called me saying look what they’re doing to me. ‘Baal aise kar diye, tond de diya,’ but I said, it’s looking mind-blowing.”

Abhishek further added, that if people are comparing him to Irrfan, then it has nothing to do with him, but everything to do with the director. “We are well paid, pampered puppets! The grand master here is the pupetteer.”
