NEW DELHI: The trio of India’s Harmanpreet Kaur, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine and Australia’s Beth Mooney were on Thursday involved in a hilarious turn of events that left the commentators and fans in splits during a Women’s Big Bash League match.
The incident between the three unfolded during a controversial yet funny ‘dead ball’ incident during the Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers game.
It all happened on the fifth ball of the 15th over of the Melbourne innings when Harmanpreet was on strike and was getting ready to face Devine.
But even before Harman could look up after tapping her bat, Devine, already on her delivery stride, released the ball as a stunned Harman backed out at the last moment.
The Kiwi all-rounder then Devine stuck to her ground, telling the umpires that the over should be called and got into a debate with Harmanpreet, who wanted it to be a dead ball.
As the two on-field umpires had a chat and sent it upstairs, a miked-up Mooney then said that she was with Devine on the issue but asked the commentators not to tell that to Harman as he is “scared” of her.
The ball was eventually ruled dead and Devine then cheekily raised her thumb at Harman before bowling the next ball.
As the final legal ball of the over ended in a no run, Moony then took a cheeky swipe at Harman, saying “all that for a dot”.
