IPL auction: Accelerated process to begin from player 117

MUMBAI: In order to speed up the IPL 2025 mega auction process in Jeddah on November 24 & 25, the BCCI will have an accelerated process which will start after 116 players have been sold. The 117th in the list is Ricky Bhui.
In a communication to the franchises last week, the BCCI wrote, “For your planning purposes please note, subject to timings it is envisaged that the accelerated process will start after player No. 116. The first accelerated process will cover all the players from 117-574. Franchises will be asked to nominate a set number of players from this group by 10 PM on the evening of Nov 24. Once these players (117-574) have been presented, franchises will be requested to submit the names of players (unpresented/ unsold) from all those on the full list of 574 for further accelerated presentation. This will be covered in more detail at the auction briefing on Nov 23 2024.”

BCCI added: “The player auction will commence with the marquee sets followed by a full round of capped players by specialism-batter, allrounders, wicketkeeper/batter, fast bowlers and spin bowlers and then move into a full specialism round of uncapped players.”
The final register of 574 players, pruned from 1574, also includes the additional 39 players whose inclusion was requested by the franchises. “The auction rules and the availability details of overseas players along with the update of the players who have been reported or banned for suspect bowling action will be sent in due course,” the board has informed.
No clash with Perth Test timings
Meanwhile, the auction timings will not overlap with the action on Day Three and Four in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth, which starts on November 22. Play will end at 2:50 pm in India, with the possibility of an additional 30 minutes of play. The auction will start at 1pm (as per Saudi time) and 3.30pm India time.
Mallika Sagar to conduct auction
Meanwhile, Mallika Sagar, who made history last year as the IPL’s first female auctioneer, will return as the auctioneer. Sagar conducted the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction last year and the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 8 auction. The BCCI has also decided to invite all the members of the Apex Council for the auction.
