Pro Kabaddi League Highlights: Pawan Sehrawat’s Telugu Titans beat Pardeep Narwal’s Bengaluru Bulls; Patna Pirates youngsters clinch solid win vs UP Yoddhas

The Telugu Titans fended off a resilient Bengaluru Bulls to secure a hard-fought 38-35 victory in Saturday’s second game of the night. Their captain and star raider Pawan Sehrawat’s 14 points alongside Ajit Pawar’s High 5 was enough to take the home team to the win, but the fans almost bore witness to an incredible comeback from the Bengaluru Bulls at the GMCB Indoor Stadium.

Pawan Sehrawat dominated the first half to help the Telugu Titans take a massive lead. The hi-flyer’s Super Raid was followed by the first ALL OUT of the match in the 11th minute, and Ashish Narwal added a second Super Raid to give the home side a sizeable advantage early in the game. The only reprieve for the Bengaluru Bulls were three Super Tackles, which took the score to 23-12 at the end of the first half.

With a 11-point deficit entering the second half, it was raider Ajinkya Pawar and defender Nitin Rawal who helped the Bengaluru Bulls reduce the deficit with multiple successful moves. Nitin completed his High 5 and got the Titans ALL OUT in the same move, while he was ably supported by Ajinkya Pawar, who found his feet and single-handedly won points for his side. 

Pawan continued his form for the Telugu Titans and reached a Super 10, but Ajinkya’s raiding proved lethal as the second half went on. Coupled with Pankaj’s Super Raid, the Bengaluru Bulls got the home team ALL OUT for a second time as they reduced the deficit to just five points. 

The hard-fought comeback was not enough however, as the Bengaluru Bulls were just three points behind their opponents. In the end, Pawan Sehrawat’s side were victorious over the Bengaluru Bulls for the second-straight time in PKL season 11.

Having trailed in the initial part of the match, the Patna Pirates came back in style, as they romped past the UP Yoddhas and won by a scoreline of 42-37, at the GMCB Indoor Stadium, in Gachibowli, in Hyderabad on Saturday. For the Patna Pirates, the dynamic Devank was once again the star of the show with 11 points. Along with Devank, the Patna Pirates also had Ayan scoring 9 points. For the UP Yoddhas, it was Gagan Gowda who top scored with 9 points, while Hitesh registered a High 5 and Bharat bagged 6 points. 

UP Yoddhas’ captain Surender Gill and Gagan Gowda got the team off to a bright start, as the raced into a 3-point lead within first few minutes of the contest. And complementing them was the defensive unit, which put the UP Yoddhas in the box seat early on. 7 minutes in, Hitesh and UP Yoddhas inflicted an ALL OUT on the Patna Pirates as well. At this point, the UP Yoddhas were well and truly bossing the contest. 

For the Patna Pirates, it was Devank and Ayan, who were leading the charge, yet again. But, midway through the first half, it was the UP Yoddhas, who led the contest by 7 points. After that, the Patna Pirates started to mount a comeback, with Ayan taking charge in attack and the Shubham Shide led defence supporting him brilliantly. The contest turned on its head with 5 minutes to go in the half, as the Patna Pirates inflicted an ALL OUT on the UP Yoddhas, which brought both teams to 15-15. 

From then on in, the three-time champions cranked up the intensity, and ended a well contested first half with the lead. At the break, the Patna Pirates led 23-19. 

The Patna Pirates started the second half brightly, and had the better of their opponents in the first few minutes. But Bharat and Hitesh ensured the UP Yoddhas would stay within touching distance of the Patna Pirates. Devank, Ayan and Shubham Shinde were pulling the strings for the Patna Pirates, who despite all the pressure, managed to hold onto the lead. For the UP Yoddhas, Surender Gill, Gagan Gowda, Hitesh and Bharat were working well in sync, which was causing their opponents some concern. At the half-hour mark, the Patna Pirates led by 3 points, but it was still anyone’s game. 

The final phase of play saw Devank complete yet another Super 10, after which the Patna Pirates landed an ALL OUT on the UP Yoddhas as well. From the on in, the Patna Pirates, started to consolidate on their lead. Eventually, the Patna Pirates won the contest, and registered their third win of the season.

Pankaj gets a touch on Sagar Rathee. Vijay Malik is happy to play on the third raid and slow things down a bit with an empty raid. Bulls make a substitution: Jatin is sent out and Akshit comes in with a little over a minute to go in this game. Meanwhile, Bulls review for a bonus, but Pankaj has not crossed the black line, he’s slid over it. A minute and a half to go. Pawan Sehrawat comes in for a do-or-die raid. He walks away with a point and the man who was stopping him all night can do nothing but watch as Pawan gets a solid kick into his chest. Pawan ends up giving away his point to Pankaj though with the clock ticking down. Titans have the luxury of two empty raids which will be enough to see the game through. Pankaj gets a touch on Krishan Dhull. The Bulls are placing themselves high to deny a legal raid too, in trying to get Vijay to do something. Even then, Parteek tries to hastily do something and Vijay is happy to dangle his leg to the other side to safety. A win for the Titans

Don’t lose focus, Titans coach Krishan Kumar Hooda screams! Plenty of voices here in the Titans camp but what will matter is what they do. Ajinkya Pawar is drawn into a triangular defence and castled in the right corner. Vijay Malik then comes on, puts in an empty raid, runs the clock down and heads back. It’s important to control the pace of the game for the Titans. Ashish Nerwal comes in for a do-or-die raid. Time was running out but Surinder Singh is here to gift the opponent points. The entire Bulls bench is livid. 

Bonus points for the Bulls., Pankaj earning it for the Bulls. TIME OUT called by the Bulls.

Don’t take unnecessary risks, says Randhir. And as he predicted it, the Titans go looking for trouble with Ajinkya. Two points to the Bulls. Pankaj brings down Nitin and the comeback is complete! ALL OUT INFLICTED BY THE BULLS AND JUST LIKE THAT, THE TABLES HAVE TURNED! From a 11 point deficit to a three point deficit. Bulls will fancy their chances now.

SUPER RAID FOR the Bulls and it’s Pankaj. He goes from corner to corner, jumps above the right corner defender and has three points. Krishan, Ajit Pawar, Vijay Malik. But Pankaj isn’t done. He brings down the mighty Pawan Sehrawat. Exciting new burst of energy here from the youngster as the time arrives for a timeout. 

Empty raid for Pawan Sehrawat. Bulls make a substitution: Pankaj in for Jai Bhagwan. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Pawar is chipping away. He’s mananged a kick on Krishan Dhull in the right corner. Pawan Sehrawat puts in a gentle kick and catches the hand of Jatin. 

Pawar is back and Pawan Sehrawat says enough is enough and puts in a vicious backhold on Pawar. No way he’s getting out of that stranglehold! The crowd roars! Their homeboy is putting on a show! 

All out means All in and Titans are full strength. Bonus for Pawan Sehrawat. Jai Bhagwan looks for a point but ends up diving into the fangs of the Titans cover defence. Sent back prompty from the Titans. Pawan Sehrawat then puts in a two-point raid. Pawan muscles Surinder Singh out of the way as he makes it to the midline. Surinder and advanced tackles. SUPER 10 for Pawan meanwhile.

Second half, here we go! Empty raids for both sides. Do-or-die raid for the Titans and it’s Chetan Sahu who is in. Nitin Rawal brings him down and brings up the high five. Chetan waited for too long and the time pressure became his undoing. Ajinkya Pawar comes in for a do-or-die raid and capitalises on a shoddy touch from the right corner Sagar. Ajinkya Pawar then reduces Titans to just one man on the mat. Vijay Malik has to do things all by himself and is dashed out. BULLS EFFECT THE ALL OUT. Nitin Rawal the man orchestrating it all. 

A 11-point deficit between these two sides comes down entirely to the raiding department of the respective sides. Bulls have managed to find some cohesiveness in defence but a toothless raiding performance will always put the side on the backfoot when the opponent features someone like Pawan Sehrawat. Can the Bulls — Pardeep Narwal, Ajinkya Pawar and Co — find a better shade to their raiding in the second half? 

Empty raid for Vijay Malik. Ajinkya Pawar comes in for the Bulls. One point from seven raids, make that eight raids. Vijay Malik goes in, legalises the raid and comes back, with Ajinkya Pawar coming in for the do-or-die raid. Krishan Dhull tries to get a hold of his ankles, but Pawar runs away with a much-needed point.

It’s these early empty raids that have always been his undoing. What’s the way out here? How is Randhir happy with the slow starts? 

Vijay Malik is also happy with an empty raid. Less than three muinutes left and Jatin can do nothing as the Titans dash him out of court. Bulls defence is saving face for this outfit. ANOTHER SUPER TACKLE. Ashish Narwal is brought down by Nitin Rawal. 

Only 2 raid points so far by the Bulls while Titans have 12 in their account. Dismal numbers. Ashish Narwal gets a running hand touch on Ponparthiban Subramanian. Jatin gets a bonus point. Pawan Sehrawat is brought down for the second time in a super tackle opportunity. I don’t know if Randhir Sehrawat will celebrate a win, so he’s cashinf in on his current team getting the better of his former pupil. 

Ajinkya Pawar comes in and his tackle tells you everything you need to know about why the Bulls are struggling this season. He had the chance to inch ahead and tap out for a few points, but Pawar hesitated. The defence happily swallows him. Pawan Sehrawat then goes in and gets a touch on the right corner Saurabh Nandal. Ajit Pawar brings down Jai Bhagwan and Pardeep Narwal is livid on the bench. This is a mauling. 

SOME BREATHING SPACE FOR THE BULLS. Pawan on the bench and it’a super tackle for the Bulls. No smiles for the Bulls. Why will they? It’s probably the one passage of play that’s gone right for them so far

Another super raid for the Titans and this time it’s Ashish Narwal who has taken out Nitin Rawal, Ponparthiban Subramanian in one go. 

A timeout has been taken. Much needed as the Bulls are looking a bit winded here at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad. 

Vijay Malik runs away with a bonus point. Do or die raid for the Bulls and they’ve sent Jai Bhagwan. He keeps tempting the right corner and he is brought down by the defence. Ashish Narwal successfully gets a touch on Ponparthiban Subramanian. Ajit Pawar then sends Ajinkya Pawar flying out of the mat. And then there’s vintage Pawan Sehrawat. SUPER RAID. THREE PLAYERS. THREE POINTS HE’S GOT. Saurabh Nandal, Parteek, Nitin Rawal – have to go. Pardeep Narwal is brought down by Ajit Pawar. ALL OUT INFLICTED. 

Ajinkya Pawar’s speed is his strength but if you run parallel to the white line, you will get caught and that’s what happens here. He is brought down and send back. 

Nitin Rawal seems to be marking Pawan singlehandedly. Gets a hold of his foot again and single-handedly pulls the man back before reinforcements arrive. What spunk from the Bulls left corner! 

Pardeep Narwal sets the ball rolling. Empty raid. Pawan Sehrawat replies, with a bust of speed and sends Saurabh Nandal out of bounds in trying to evade his running hand touch. The Titans defence alo wants a piece of the action as Jai Bhagwan, who went too deep into the right defence, is brought down. 

Bulls will reply in kind. Nitin Rawal gets a hold of Pawan’s kicking foot and brings him down. All smiles as the players emerge from the pile. Ajinkya Pawar, blink and you’ll miss, gets a touch on Krishan to level scores.

A big clash of Titans on the menu as Pardeep Narwal, the biggest star of the sport takes on the Indian captain and the sport’s poster boy Pawan Sehrawat in the Southern Derby between Bengaluru Bulls vs Telugu Titans. 

Under a minute left. Bharat comes in and gets a touch on Shubham Shinde, the gentlest of flicks on a crouching Shinde. Ayan goes in and runs the clock down first before turning back. Keshav Kumar comes in with haste and gets a touch on Ankit. This means Ayan will come in on a do-or-die raid off the last raid of this game. Incredible skill from the youngster as he breaches the chain coming for him with a dubki no less. Sumit, Keshav Kumar have to go as Ayan seals a win in the most Pirates way possible. Pardeep Narwal, who is in the house, should have enjoyed that, given he’s the OG dubki king. 

Devank is brought down by the UP defence. He was too far into the corner and is brought down. No problem for Patna as the defence is up for it. Yuvaraj once again brings down Gagan Gowda. Under a minute and a half left for this game and Patna brings out Yuvaraj for Arkam Shaikh. 

Empty raid for Ayan. Bunch of substitutions. Bhavani Rajput is out. Keshav Kumar comes in. Fresh legs, but will be given time to rest by Thiyagarajan Yuvaraj who puts in the diving hold from the left corner. 

Gagan manages a touch on Ankit and the bonus. Patna coach not happy watching along. 

Patna will want to slow the game down while UP Yoddhas are finding any possible way to stay alive in this game. Patna coach Narender is warning against advance tackles. 

Bhavani Rajput continues to find roadblocks as Deepak and Arkam send him flying out. No chance at all. He was substituted in place of the skipper Surender Gill. What was the UP think tank thinking? 

Bharat is brought down by the Patna right cover. Five minutes left in this match and somehow UP has been reduced to a whimper. Not just yet. There is some life left in this UP defence. Sumit puts in a solid anklehold on Devank who came in for a do-or-die raid. 

Devank gets a touch on Sumit. One more point to Devank and Patna. Gagan gets a bonus. Mahender in the left corner comes in with a thigh hold and brings down Devank with some help from Bharat. Gagan is brought down soon enough as he falls into a crowd in the centre of the mat surrounded by green shirts. 

Final ten minutes and UP Yoddhas have brought out Bhavani Rajput. Juat two men left on the mat for UP Yoddhas and make it one as Bhavani Rajput ends up giving a touch to Devank. He has SUPER 10!. Kaboudrahangi is the last man and he can’t manage a proper point. ALL OUT INFLICTED! What a comeback by Patna

Devank goes in with the super tackle active for UP Yoddhas. Goes in, gets a quick touch on Hitesh and comes out does Devank. No unnecessary hanging back. 

Arkam Shaikh brings down Bharat to keep the points ticking for Patna. ANOTHER SUPER TACKLE. What do you know. Errors from the Patna Pirates. Ayan stepped into the lobby without a touch and the number of defenders on the mat gives UP its two points yet again. Surender Gill is brought down this time by Arkam Shaikh as Patna tries to keep its defences tight. 

High-line defence for Bharat from Patna. He manages to still get a bonus. Patna should review that when this game is done. Ayan looked like he had got a touch on Sumit as he gets into the lobby. Turns out he hasn’t and replays show Sumit has already gone beyond the playing area into the lobby. So a point each for both teams. Oh wait. There’s another twist. A super tackle has been given to UP and a point has been given to Patna. Look at the lead reduce for Patna. Sumit stepping out reduced the number of defenders to three. Making it a super tackle situation. Ayan coming out gives the side its super tackle points. 

Sandeep is brought down on the left flank despite seeing the defence circle around him and block out his space. Patna is happy to return the favour, with Gagan brought down at the other side, with Arkham Shaikh and Deepak doing the needful. 

Surender Gill comes in for a do-or-die raid. Gill deals so close to the midline and this could have all gone awefully wrong for Patna but Shubham Shinde is an experienced hand. He pulls the lanky raider back and splashes him onto th back of the mat. Safety. Incredible. 

Super tackle opportunity for UP Yoddhas given they’re down to three men. Ayan is brought down as Hitesh’s anklehold proves too tight to get out of. Two crucial points for UP. 

Surender Gill starts with an empty raid. Sandeep gets past three defenders and gets his point. Great strength and bravery from the young raider. 

Pure spirit from Patna as the side overturned a six-point deficit at one stage to take a four-point lead at half time. Youngsters Devank and Ayan have been key to Patna’s fortunes and have been effective thanks to their speed and strength. 

Gagan Gowda is helping the Yoddhas stay in the game. He’s taken out Sandeep, Deepak. Devank gets an attempted ankle hold from Bharat but he breaks free and gets to the midline. Patna’s defence now steps up and brings down Gagan. Solid ankle hold from Ankit. No room to wriggle out of this one. 

Bharat, with a skilful running hand touch, sends out Ankit Jaglan. Ayan the raider runs straight into Mahender coming in from the left corner. And Mahender’s strength on full display here! Stopped in his tracks is Ayan. Patna will claim its point with Shubham Shinde bringing down Bharat. 

Bonus for Devank. Shubham Shinde and Ayan bring down Surender Gill. Devank then pushes Sumit, with brute strength, past the midline. Proper momentum swing in favour of the Pirates. Jang Kun Lee is applauding his boys from the bench. Ayan gets a touch on Sumit. 

Ayan has a big running hand touch on Mahender. Mohammadreza Kaboudrahangi thought he was asking a point off him, not realising that his chainmate has been compromised. Patna carries the momentum to bring down Surender Gill. Team effort this. Ayan handles Hitesh and the last man Bharat is brought down. ALL OUT INFLICTED. COMEBACK IN ORDER. 

Devank drags Ashu to the midline in no time. Incredible speed and strength on show from this young Patna raider. 

Patna is rotating its raiders giving Sandeep a go. Big kick on Sumit to pick up a point for the Pirates. Mahender could have gone for the tackle but chose to play it safe. Surender, the UP captain comes in and there’s no safe playing about this man. He low cartwheels on the mat, picks up his point and turns back to safety. 

Bharat comes in for the third raid, do-or-die. Runs the clock down and uses this limb length to stretch across and manage the touch on Sandeep. Devank then follows and sends out Ashu Singh once more. 

The Pirates defence has found its voice now as they circle and splatter Gagan to the ground, captain Shubham Shinde leading this ploy. 

Empty raid for Surender Gill. Empty raid for Bharat Hooda too. Devank is in for a do-or-die raid and allows UP no time to breathe. He came looking for the multi-point raid and he’ll get it. Ashu Singh gone, plus the bonus. 

Gagan wanted more than two points. Deepak, Arkam Shaikh who tried to tackle him very close to the midline without much avail, now have to sit on the bench. 

Ayan got a bonus off the previous point but is the last man standing after Surender Gill gets a solid kick on Ankit. He only delays the inevitable as he is brought down in the right flank. He’s given the bonus point but the all out is inflicted by UP. 

Devank comes in for a do-or-die raid and is brought down by the chain on the right flanks. Surender Gill part of the chain there to bring down this sprightly raider. Early gains for UP. Gill is then happy to pick up more points as he skips and evades his way back to safety. Patna down to two men with more than 15 minutes left on the clock.

Devank begins for Patna, with UP choosing court. He’s happy to put in a safe empty raid. On hold on he has a bonus. Surender Gill goes in for the Yoddhas. He ventures into the left corner and gets a few touches along the way to get the team off the mark. Bonus plus the point of Sandeep for Surender.
