Jaiswal in 2024
Yashasvi Bhupendra Kumar Jaiswal (born 28 December 2001) is an Indian cricketer who represents the national team. He made a stunning debut in July 2023, scoring a century in his very first innings during a Test match against the West Indies. In domestic cricket, he plays for Mumbai, and in the IPL, he represents Rajasthan Royals.
In 2024, Jaiswal made headlines by scoring double centuries in consecutive Test matches against England in a five-match series. This rare feat made him the third Indian to achieve it, alongside legends like Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli. At just 22 years old, he became the third youngest player in Test history, after Sir Don Bradman and Vinod Kambli, to score two double centuries.
In the same series, he equaled Wasim Akram’s record by smashing 12 sixes in a single Test innings. He also joined Sunil Gavaskar as the second Indian to score 700 runs in a Test series, solidifying his place as one of cricket’s brightest talents.
Jaiswal has been part of several key milestones for Indian cricket. He was instrumental in India winning the Gold Medal at the 2022 Asian Games (held in 2023) and shone during the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup as the Player of the Tournament and the highest run-scorer.
In 2023, he was a standby player during the ICC World Test Championship final, where India finished as runners-up. He was also part of the Indian squad that won the 2024 T20 World Cup, though he didn’t play any matches in the tournament.
Early life
Yashasvi Jaiswal was born on December 28, 2001, in Suriyawan, Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh. He is the youngest among four siblings. His father, Bhupendra Jaiswal, ran a small hardware store, while his mother, Kanchan Jaiswal, was a homemaker. Yashasvi has an elder brother and two elder sisters.
At the age of ten, he moved to Mumbai to chase his dream of becoming a cricketer and began training at Azad Maidan. Initially, he stayed at a dairy shop, working there for food and shelter. However, due to his intense training schedule, he couldn’t keep up with the work and was asked to leave. With no other option, he lived in a tent alongside the groundsmen at the Maidan, supporting himself by selling panipuri.
In December 2013, after three challenging years in tents, his cricket talent caught the attention of Jwala Singh, who ran a cricket academy in Santacruz. Jwala not only offered him a proper place to stay but also became his guardian and mentor, guiding him towards a promising cricketing career.

Youth career

It wasn’t an easy journey for Jaiswal. It was during his three years of living in tents that Jwala Singh discovered him in December 2013. Singh, who was previously running a cricket academy in Santacruz, provided shelter to Jaiswal and eventually became his guardian so that he could concentrate on playing the sport.

Franchise career
Rajasthan Royals bought Jaiswal in 2020, but he didn’t play that season. In 2021, after missing the first match, he scored nearly 200 runs, including a half-century against the eventual champions, Chennai Super Kings. Despite his efforts, RR failed to qualify for the playoffs.
The 2022 season was a rollercoaster for Jaiswal. He started poorly, scoring just 25 runs in the first three games, and was dropped for the next six matches. Against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he scored 21 runs, but Jos Buttler’s brilliant century secured a comfortable win for RR. In the final, RR collapsed to just 130 runs, with Jaiswal scoring 22, as Gujarat Titans won easily.
In 2024, Jaiswal started strong with an unbeaten 104 against Mumbai Indians, helping RR to a victory. The team reached the playoffs but fell short, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the semi-final.
